Cockpit of a Convair 240 at the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica
Cockpit of a Convair 240 at the Museum of Flying

The photo you see here is a cockpit of a Convair 240. Specifically, this is a CV-240 that was built for the Air Force. The 240 was a twin engine passenger aircraft. One of the things that made it special was that it was pressurized. Up until the introduction of the 240, passenger aircraft were not pressurized.

This cockpit is the “real deal”, but it is a section of the airplane. It is on display at the Museum of Flying at the Santa Monica Airport. The 240 was quite advanced for the day it was built, so it is rather interesting to see this example up close. By modern standards, the instrumentation is very basic.

If you get to the Museum of Flying, be sure to check out this display.
