Boston A70 Repair, Part 2: Removing the Foam Surrounds
In the previous post I described finding that the foams in a pair of Boston A70 speakers were bad. In this post I will describe how I removed the old foam.

I closely followed the instructions supplied with the foam surround replacement kits form SimplySpeakers.com. The first step was to remove each woofer.
The kit for this project came from SimpleSpeakers.com. I have used their kits for several other projects.
It was necessary to use extreme care when lifting the woofer out of the speaker case because there wires are not overly long. The next step was to carefully disconnect the wires.
With the woofer out of the speaker case we see that there is a gasket that fits under the woofer frame. We had to be careful so that this gasket was not damaged.
This is the part of the project that I find the most nerve-wracking. Following the SimplySpeakers.com instructions very carefully, the old foam as to be removed and the remnants cleaned off of the frame and cone.
