You never know what you will see on the Erie Canal. This heron turned up at Lock 6 on the Erie Canal near Cohoes, NY. He (we assume he was a he) was quietly surveying the water for (again, we assume) fish. There was only one other visitor to Lock 6 while we were there, and all of us stayed away from our featured pal so as to not disturb him. We did get some nice photographs from a respectful distance, and you an see the spectacular pose our model struck.
In the background you can see one of the two water control gates that are used to manage the flow of water through the Waterford Flight locks.
