JVC XL-F252BK Fix: Belt!

JVC XL-F252BK Fix: Belt!

In the last post I discussed how there was a problem with a JVC XL-F252BK that I recently picked up. The drawer did not work correctly, and my best guess was that the belt was bad. Here we will find out if I was right.

The JVC XL-F252BK belt is fairly small, a bit larger than a quarter. Because the belt was old, it was slippery and not flexible enough. One way to test a belt is to clean it with isopropyl alcohol. That often reduces the slip. In this case, a good cleaning reduced the slipping and the drawer worked better. Unfortunately, the cleaning did not totally stop the slip, but it confirmed that the belt was bad. The solution was simple. I replaced the belt! Admittedly, I had to order a “bag-o-belts”, but at 20 belts for $9 it was a major expense.

With the new belt in place, the next step was to test the CD player. In the following video we see what happened.

Behold! It works!! Now all we have to do is put the case cover back on.
