Wrong, Wrong, Wrong — Disaster Strikes In the CD Player World

Ooof! Well, in an earlier post we saw that the Denon DN-T620 CD/Cassette player pictured on the right was working just fine. Oh, my, that turned out to be soooo wrong! The cassette portion is super-duper, but the CD player has a very bad laser pickup.

Depending on the CD, the laser skips. It is in a rather delicate condition right now and in some instances the skipping can be so serious that the machine jumps tracks.

And, no, to the audiophiles who read this, it does not “need new caps”. This is a laser problem.

The good news, maybe, is that I have a new laser on the table right now. So the question is, can this machine be fixed by a simple swap-out? Some readers know that I had a 4-month long repair journey with a B & O Beosystem 2500 over the past few months. I am hoping that this is not the same long-lasting experience.

We will see, and I will report.
